New Fire Station Signal Alert

The City of Merritt and Merritt Fire Rescue are enhancing firefighter and public safety as well as emergency response times with the installation of a new Fire Station traffic light on Nicola Ave, thanks to full funding from the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.

This new signal will only activate when emergency vehicles are leaving the station. When in use, the light will flash yellow to alert drivers to slow down and prepare to stop. It will then turn red, stopping traffic in both directions to allow fire trucks and other emergency vehicles to exit safely. Once emergency vehicles have cleared the roadway, the signal will return to normal traffic flow.

The City reminds drivers to remain alert near the station, obey all signal changes like any traffic light, and never attempt to “beat the light.” Emergency vehicles may be entering the roadway at high speed.

Your cooperation helps protect our first responders and keeps our community safe. Thank you for driving with care.
