Prior to prom every year, the graduating class of Merritt Senior Secondary School celebrates their achievement with a Prom + Vehicle Parade around town. The class, dressed in their best, start a parade of decorated floats, classic vehicles, and a police escort, on a tour from Voght Park to their prom at the Merritt Civic Centre.
At 5:00 pm, the grads will commence the Grand March, as they walk the red carpet to their long-awaited prom. During the Grand March at the Merritt Civic Centre, there will be a food truck and a lemonade stand (fundraising by Collettville Elementary).
The vehicle parade will be led (and followed) by an RMCP police car. The RCMP will be stopping traffic at key points along the route. There will be volunteers temporarily barricading the roads until the parade passes through. The entire procession is expected to last 30 – 45 minutes.
We ask all residents to take caution around students, traffic control personnel, and volunteers that will be on the roads during this time. These graduates have worked hard to reach this achievement. We appreciate your cooperation to make this annual celebration special for them!
