Council Awards Scholarships
At the July 8 City of Merritt Council meeting, three deserving students were honoured with the City of Merritt/Trans Mountain Scholarships, recognizing their academic achievement, community involvement, and future aspirations.
Suevanna Ho, a Grade 12 student at Merritt Secondary School, will pursue her passion for teaching at the University of Calgary. With a long-held goal to support children’s learning and growth, Suevanna expressed her gratitude: “Receiving your bursary would allow me to further my education and become the teacher that I wish to be.”
Miguel Etchart-Vegara, a lifelong Merritt resident, is working toward becoming a Red Seal electrician. Balancing full-time apprenticeship and part-time studies, Miguel shared, “Balancing work, school, and life has been challenging but rewarding,” and noted that the scholarship support “aligns with my values and passions.”
Ezekiel Thuveson, a Merritt Secondary graduate and Dual Dogwood Diploma recipient, will study science at the University of Victoria with ambitions to enter the medical field. A leader in academics and extracurricular activities, Ezekiel reflected, “It is very important to me that I assist my parents through acquiring scholarships and bursaries to support them in sending their five children to post-secondary.”
The City of Merritt/Trans Mountain Scholarship program exemplifies the city’s commitment to investing in local youth and supporting their educational and career goals. Council members congratulated the recipients and encouraged continued dedication to community leadership and personal growth.
