Sandbag Station
1410 Government Avenue
In spring and fall, when flooding is a risk in low-lying areas, the City of Merritt replenishes the sand at the self-serve sandbagging station located at 1410 Government Avenue, between Main Street and Hill Street (diagonally across from Centennial Park).
Restocking of the sandbagging station is typically prompted by high-water advisories — for example, in the fall when heavy rainfall may affect the Coldwater River, and in the spring when freshet conditions may impact the Nicola River.
The station provides sand, a shovel, and sandbags. Users are required to fill their own sandbags. Please do not remove any tools from the site. If the shovel goes missing, it will not be replaced.
The sand provided at this station is intended solely for residents to protect low-lying properties from flooding. It is not to be used for any other purpose, including adding weight to vehicles during winter or for gardening or landscaping.
Please do not use this sand unless you have property at risk of flooding.
