The City of Merritt’s Economic Development Department is here to provide recommendations to Council on policies and strategic initiatives that will further enhance Merritt as an ideal business and investment location and to ensure sustainability through growth, vibrancy, financial stability, infrastructure, quality of life, and visitor attractiveness. To fulfill its mandate, the Economic Development Department provides a conduit to disseminate quality information, increase the growth and competitiveness of value-added sectors, facilitate economic development, attract investment, and promote the City of Merritt.

The City of Merritt Economic Development Department plays a lead role in acting as a facilitator between business and the Municipality. The focus of is on attracting new investment, creating partnerships, networks and alliances, providing strategic market intelligence, showcasing Merritt, and promoting Merritt’s established and emerging industries. The department has many services, programs, and initiatives in place to achieve City objectives.

Some of the services provided include:

  • Assisting new and expanding businesses with locating and relocating
  • Facilitating business development process within the Municipality
  • Conducting research on business gaps and opportunities
  • Conducting competitive economic development assessments
  • Researching the trends related to the various industrial sectors in Merritt
  • Assisting investors to identify business opportunities
  • Facilitating sharing of business issues with relevant agencies
  • Providing community statistics and demographics
