What's new?

The City of Merritt is beginning their budget deliberations for 2018 – 2022 and wants your input.   To be an active participant in the budget process attend the meetings or follow the process on our website.

The City of Merritt has struck a number of committees tasked with providing Council with information and recommendations on a wide variety of issues.  Members serving on committees are volunteers from the community, seeking to make a difference. 

The semi-annual City of Merritt residential utility invoices were mailed in October.  The due date to receive the 10% discount is November 30, 2017.  Invoices unpaid at December 31, 2017 will be transferred to the property tax account. 

The City of Merritt was recently advised by the TNRD, that some curbside recycling containers were contaminated with items that are not permitted in the recycling containers, such as yard waste i.e. leaves, twigs etc. - this contaminated the entire bin container load.
 

The City of Merritt would like to remind the general public of the ongoing construction work on Coldwater Avenue between Wilson Street and Chapman Street. As back to school quickly approaches, please be mindful of road closures, detours and delays in this area and plan your route accordingly.

The deadline for new applications for permissive property tax exemptions has been extended to September 15, 2017.

The City of Merritt would like to remind residents that this is the time of year that bear sightings increase as they prepare for dormancy.

Effective September 5th, 2017 the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) will no longer be accepting plastic bags in its mixed recycling program.  This effects the recycling program the City of Merritt offers.

What will no longer be accepted: 
 

Today until 5:00 PM, Service Canada agents are on site in Merritt to answer any questions evacuees have about Employment Insurance and Pensions.

Some assistance may also be available for anyone who needs to apply for E.I.
