A "business" is defined as "carrying on a commercial or industrial undertaking of any kind or nature or the providing of professional, personal or other services for the purposes of gain or profit.
Every business operating within the boundaries of the City of Merritt requires a valid business licence.

Business licences are issued on January 1 and terminate on December 31 of each year. It is the responsibility of the business owner to ensure that they have a valid licence and that all licence fees are paid promptly. Unpaid fees are subject to a penalty fee.
