Canada Day Update

The City of Merritt is pleased to announce that the 2020 Canada Day Fireworks show will take place this evening starting at 10:00 PM.

The Canada Day Fireworks will launch from Central Park at extended heights of between 300 to 700 ft.  New locations were considered, but Central Park was selected for its location and safe space for launching the Fireworks.

In accordance to COVID-19 regulations, the Central Park Parking Lot will be limited to a maximum of 49 vehicles and any large crowds are strongly discouraged. The Merritt Legion’s traditional Canada Day ceremony has been postponed to 2021.

The City of Merritt would like to remind community members that most other municipalities have cancelled their fireworks, and residents are strongly encouraged to practice physical distancing. The success of the 2020 Canada Day Fireworks and residents’ safe conduct will guide considerations for the 2020 Halloween Fireworks event.

The fireworks will be live-streamed on the City of Merritt Facebook page and residents can watch them from their backyards.

Please note the Travelling Band event as previously promoted will be cancelled due to forecasted rain. The Canada Day Keep Active Scavenger Hunt will be concluding at midnight on July 2nd with some awesome prizes to be won.
