PUBLIC INVITED

Town Hall

Thursday, September 5, 2024
6:00 pm  |  Merritt Civic Centre
Topic: Housing Shelter
Public Input: 2 minutes per person

BC Housing recently informed City Hall that they will be relocating their recently closed homeless shelter (previously at the Desert Inn at 2350 Voght Street) to the Knights Inn at 2702 Nicola Avenue. This lease agreement between BC Housing and the private landowner conforms to City Bylaws, and thereby did not require consultation with City Council.

BC Housing has informed the City that they are communicating directly with area neighbours and are issuing a press release announcing the new agreement. View their official news release (August 30, 2024).

In response to this news and acknowledging the breadth of misinformation in the community, the City of Merritt is hosting a Townhall at the Merritt Civic Centre, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 6:00pm to enable residents to learn more about the role of BC Housing in this matter and the limited role of the City of Merritt.

Submit your questions in advance. EMAIL:  INFO@MERRITT.CA

See you Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 6:00pm for this open Town Hall.
