Welcome to the City of Merritt

The City of Merritt is located in the beautiful Nicola Valley, at the intersection of the Coquihalla Highway and Coquihalla Connector. It is a great place to live and visit, work and play, and our City Council is committed to keeping the mission statement a reality:

“The City of Merritt is a progressive, attractive, economically viable city that is socially responsible and environmentally sustainable.”

Got something on your mind?  A question or concern about the city?  Mayor Roline invites you to drop in to City Hall for a chat, no appointment necessary.  "Drop In" hours are between 11 am and 2 pm on  Tuesday November 24th, Tuesday December 1st and Tuesday December 8th.  Additional days will be scheduled in January 2010.

Santa's Coming!
The Country Christmas Parade is on Friday, November 27th.  Get downtown early to get a great viewing spot!  Normal transit service will run that day as per schedule, and following the parade there will be extra service to get you home again.  Starting at 9:15 p.m, Transit will make two loops through downtown, the north end, Colletville and Diamondvale and one final run out to Lower Nicola.

Christmas Parade 2009  - Click here for parade route info.  Please note - NO PARKING ON THE PARADE ROUTE STREETS AFTER 4 PM OF PARADE DAY.  Thank you for our cooperation

Power Outages:

What to do during an outage
-
Check whether the power failure is limited to your home. If your neighbour's power is still on, check your circuit breaker panel or fuse box.

- Call BC Hydro at 1 888 POWERON (1 888 769 3766) or *HYDRO (*49376) on your cell phone. Tell us about the outage so we can send the right crews and equipment to the right location.

- Tune into your local radio station for storm and power outage updates.

- Turn off all appliances, including home computers and peripherals, especially those that generate heat. This helps prevent hazards or damage when service is restored.

- Turn off all lights except one inside your home and one outside. The inside light lets you know and the outside light lets BC Hydro crews know, when the power is back on.
