Why is the Fire Hall Expansion Required?

Over the last 20 years, the Merritt Fire Department has evolved from a department with limited volunteer firefighter training and extended response times to a highly respected and well trained department.

The Work Experience Program (WEP), which is a City initiative, has enabled the department to be a first responder in City limits as well as provide emergency response services to EMBC for highway rescue.

As the Fire Department has evolved the existing Fire Hall has been found to be insufficient in space and safety provisions.   Phase I included expansion of the vehicle bays to accommodate the new vehicles.   Phase II is required to address long-identified health and safety issues caused by a lack of facilities and space.
