A fire at the Kengard Manor apartment complex was reported just before noon on March 16, 2017. Merritt Fire Rescue Department crews attended, and at this time a fire crew is still on scene completing Fire Watch.
Approximately sixty (60) residents have been displaced by the incident. Emergency Social Services (ESS) has been set up at the Merritt Civic Centre. Displaced residents checked in and were assisted with temporary lodging and vouchers for food, clothing, and incidentals.
At 11AM today, an informational meeting was held at the Merritt Civic Centre with the displaced residents. Following the meeting, residents worked with ESS to fill out the Extension Forms to have lodging provided until Monday afternoon.
Currently members of the Merritt Emergency Team are contacting Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to request their assistance with addressing the needs of the displaced residents.
Insurance companies have been notified and are currently working on completing assessments of the damage.
