Merritt Fire Rescue Department Raises its Grade

The City of Merritt Improves Fire Protection and Dwelling Protection Classification.

Merritt —March 11, 2013— The Merritt Fire Rescue Department has made great strides in improving its services to the City of Merritt. The Merritt Fire Rescue Department and City of Merritt have improved its Public Fire Protection Classification to 5 its Dwelling Protection Grade to 2.According to Chief Dave Tomkinson, “this is exceptional for a municipality of our size”.

In order to reach such improvement, significant updates occurred in the Fire Department. Chief Tomkinson says that “the 2006 fire insurance grade update assisted in the improvement of the Public Fire Protection Classification and Dwelling Protection Grade”.

Some of the improvements include the implementation of the Work Experience Program. Tomkinson states that the “WEP helped to address available Firefighting Force”. Other achievements include the improvement in the Fire Safety Inspection Program, Fire Life Safety Education Program, adoption of NFPA 1001 Firefighter Training Program, and the acquisition of Ladder Truck.
The City of Merritt and the Fire Department are proud of these achievements and will strive to ensure its citizens have the best service available.
