The fire at the Kengard Manor apartment complex that started on the afternoon of Thursday, March 16, 2017, has left fifty-eight (58) residents displaced.
At the time of the fire, there were thirty-five (35) occupied units in the building.
At the request of Emergency Social Services (ESS), The City of Merritt has applied to Emergency Management BC (EMBC) and has been granted a two (2) week extension for food and lodging for the displaced residents.
Currently, professionals are onsite determining chemical levels and the structural stability of the building.
Displaced residents have been encouraged to find alternate living accommodations for the period following the extension.
Through the recovery process, information will become available for those wishing to make donations (monetary or otherwise) to the displaced residents.
Further information will be released as it becomes available.
