Economic Development Manager Moving On - The City of Merritt Looks To Fill Manager’s Position

Merritt—April 18, 2013—The City of Merritt Business & Economic Development Manager is leaving his post on May 3rd. According to Matt Noble, CAO, Mr. Umpherson is moving on to tackle new opportunities and challenges. We wish him the best of luck. He came to Merritt to build an Economic Development Department for the City of Merritt. We believe he has given us a strong foundation to work from and to transition to an established Economic Development Department. His work in media relations, communications, website development, First Nation partnerships, tourism development with TOTA and Gold Country, and an economic strategic planning process provides the City of Merritt with a solid base to build from and to have success into the future.

According to Mr. Umpherson he is “leaving the City of Merritt with mixed feelings”. He elaborates that he has “had many opportunities and challenges to establish and create a strong Economic Development Department. Departing the City is bitter sweet since we are starting to see a momentum of change and success in our efforts”. Umpherson says that “although he is confident there is a foundation for a strong Economic Development Department, he is hopeful that the next person in this position can make it their own and improve on what we have achieved”.

Mayor Susan Roline adds that “we wish Mr. Umpherson a prosperous future in his career aspirations and thank him for his diligence, resilience, and patience in building the Economic Development Department for the City of Merritt”.  She adds that “we look forward to building on his ground work and taking the next steps in our continued development and success in our goal of an environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable community”.
