Celebrate Ron Sherwood's Civic Service

Merritt —March 21 2013— The City of Merritt is celebrating Ron Sherwood’s years of civic service to community. Come join Mayor and Council at a ceremony where the City of Merrit will present him with a Note of Appreciation for years on Council. The ceremony will be on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Council Chambers. Ron Sherwood was a long serving Councillor with the City of Merritt. He spent 16-years on Council during two separate periods of time: from 1987-1990 and 1997-2008. Councillor Sherwood was a driving force behind the Liquid Waste Management Plan, and a member of several Council Committees, including the Heritage Commission. In addition to his service on Council, he was a Volunteer Firefighter for the Merritt Fire & Rescue for many years.

Ron Sherwood contributed to the governance and safety of ou community over the many years he lived and owned a business in Merriitt. He and his wife, Joan, raised two children here and owned the Sherwood Variety Store, taking over from his parents when they retired. In 2008, Councillor Sherwood retired from community politics and moved to Victoria but returns to Merritt often to visit family and friends.

Mayor and Council are please to have an opportunity to recognize one of our own as a life-long community builder an strong supporter of Merritt’s continued growth, prosperity and safety. Come out on Monday, March 25th to celebrate with us for his contributions to our community.
