General Matters:
  1. Mr. K. Christopherson from Merritt Community Cinema Society updated Council on the progress of the Merritt Community Cinema including the vision of the Merritt Community Cinema Society; their history and business plan.  Mr. Christopherson stated that although no municipal financial support is or will be requested, the Society is requesting that the City provide a written letter of support, be a source of assistance, advice and expertise as deemed appropriate and be an enthusiastic supporter of the project
Bylaws:
  1. City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2121, 2011 was given first reading
  2. City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2121, 2011 was given second reading
  3. City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2121, 2011 was submitted to Public Hearing
New Business:
  1. Council endorsed the Merritt and Area 2011-2012 Annual Operating Agreement between the City of Merritt, BC Transit and the Nicola Valley Transportation Society and authorized the Mayor and Corporate Officer to execute the agreement
  2. The City approved the Forestry Week Committee's application for a Special Occasion Liquor Licence for their year end tournament scheduled for September 24, 2011 at Central Park
  3. Council passed a resolution confirming that the City of Merritt has obtained the assent of the electors to petition the Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development to extend the boundaries of the City of Merritt as it appeared in the BC Gazette under issue of July 21, 2011 and in the local newspapers under issues of July 21, 2011 and July 28, 2011; and that all relevant legislative requirements pertaining to a municipal boundary extension in the Local Government Act and Community Charter have been completed; and further that the parcels approved for inclusion within the City of Merritt are as follows:

  4. Council awarded the tender for the Garcia/Granite Streetscape Enhancement project to Eagle Valley Excavating Inc. in the amount of $458,417.41 including taxes and authorized the Mayor and Corporate Officer to execute the necessary documents
Reports from Council:
  1. Councillor Sanders reported on the Canadian Country Music Awards she attended in Hamilton, Ontario and advised that all agreements have been signed for the Country Music Hall of Fame with an expected opening later this year
  2. Councillor Baker reported he attended the Terry Fox Run on September 18th and the Farmer's Market Corn Eating Contest on September 17th
  3. Councillor Goetz reported the Country Christmas Committee held a meeting on September 19th with 10 new members and the next meeting is scheduled for September 26th
  4. Councillor Kroeker announced the Inaugural meeting for the Directional Signage Committee will be held on September 22nd
