General Matters:
  1. Ms. L. Ward and Ms. S. Sanders presented to the City the activities over the past year of their membership including one member attending the COmmunities in Bloom Conference held in Kelowna and presented the Communities in Bloom certificate with the City of Merritt achieving 4 Bloom and a special award tot he Public Works Parks Department.  The committee members presented the results of the judging which includes the following scores:
    -environmental action - 76%
    -heritage conservation - 72%
    -urban forestry - 65%
    -landscape - 79%
    -floral - 86%
  2. Baillie House received a special mention
  3. DeWolf Way project was recognized in the Community Showcase Award feature
  4. 2012 Award for floral displays with a particular mention to Tonya Peterkin and her team at the City Parks department
  5. The Committee received notice the City of Merritt was one of five communities across Canada awarded a $100 gift certificate from Home Hardware and the committee requested a representative of Council to sit on the Communities in Bloom Committee next year
  1. Council gave the City of Merritt Road Closure Bylaw No. 2138, 2012 first, second and third reading
  2. Council adopted the City of Merritt Solid Waste Collection, Disposal and Control Amendment Bylaw No. 2139, 2012
  3. Council adopted the City of Merritt Tax Exemption Bylaw No.. 2140, 2012
New Business:
  1. Council removed Kraig Anderssen from the Air Quality Committee due to lack of attendance
  2. Council agrees to donate in-kind office space at the Community Policing Office from April 01, 2013 to March 31, 2014 to the Nicola Valley Shelter and Support Society contingent upon that Society receiving funding for the Community Development Coordinator position from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada
  3. Council resolved that the City will cover the costs for Mayor Roline to attend the inauguration and luncheon ceremonies for Judy Guichon as Lieutenant Governor General for the province of BC being held in Victoria, B.C. on November 02, 2012
Council Reports:
  1. Councillor Norgaard reported on the BC Government Rural Caucus meeting on October 12th
  2. Councillor Baker attended the speech given by Chief Clarence Louis during Small Business Week at NVIT as well as the ground breaking ceremony at the Airport for the Merritt Wildfire Zone complex and commented on the recognition awarded to Matt Noble and James Umpherson
  3. Councillor Goetz attended the funeral of Hank LaPointe, a long time community member and volunteer at the Baillie House and commented on the efforts of Administration towards the success of the new Merritt Wildfire Zone complex
  4. Mayor Roline attended the BC Government Rural Caucus meeting, opened the Pacific Coast Rally, attended the Nicola Valley Hospital Auxiliary 100th Anniversary dinner as well as the ground breaking ceremony at the Airport for the new Merritt Wildfire Zone complex and congratulated Judy Guichon on her appointment to the office of Lieutenant Governor General for the province of BC
