PUBLIC INPUT

 

GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

Mr. Travis Fehr addressed Council on behalf “Bikes Belong in Merritt”, which he explained is a local group comprised of approximately fifty members. Mr. Fehr requested an update on the multi-use pathways in Merritt and was advised by Council that they are on board with the plan and are awaiting feedback on the City’s draft Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan prior to moving forward.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

THAT Council direct staff to respond to the United Way that the request for twenty thousand ($20,000.00) dollars as a reimbursement for leasehold improvements that were added to Spirit Square during ASK Wellness’s tenancy will be added to the 2017 budget discussions
 
THAT Council approve for an in-kind contribution of labour only up to $500.00 to the Nicola Valley Search & Rescue regarding their request for assistance
 
THAT Council direct staff to bring back a report to the October 25, 2016 Regular Council meeting outlining options with respect to paying cash in lieu of providing parking spaces as required by Zoning Bylaw No. 2087, 2015
 
 

NEW BUSINESS

THAT Council receives the Merritt Community Wildfire Protection Plan 2015 Update and adopts the Planning Consideration, Planning Recommendations and Planning Communications Strategy; AND THAT Council directs Administration to make provisions in the appropriate areas of the City’s Five Year Financial Plan to address the needs of the plan on a priority basis

THAT Council approve the request and direct staff to issue a cheque to ASK Wellness for five hundred ($500.00) dollars in support of the 2016 Homeless Connect

THAT staff be directed to purchase a table for the Merritt & District Chamber of Commerce 27th Business Excellence Awards Gala

BYLAWS

THAT City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2214, 2016 be read a first and second time

THAT staff be directed to proceed with the advertisement of a Public Hearing pursuant to Local Government Act Sections 464 to 466
 
THAT City of Merritt 2017-2020 Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw No. 2215, 2016 be read a first, second and third time

  • Councillor Brown attended UBCM, meetings with the Ministry transition team in relation to the Tolko mill closure, Syrian refugee meeting, Corbett Lake fly fishing competition, and announced that Community Futures will be hosting events in celebration of Small Business Week
  • Councillor Goetz provided the latest gas buddy prices, attended UBCM, meetings with the Ministry transition team in relation to the Tolko mill closure, and had a discussion with the General Manager of SPCA regarding future services that may be available in Merritt 
  • Councillor Norgaard attended UBCM and meetings with the Ministry transition team in relation to the Tolko mill closure
  • Councillor Christopherson attended UBCM, meetings with the Ministry transition team in relation to the Tolko mill closure, Tourism and Economic Development Committee meeting, MLA Jackie Tegart meeting, Highland Valley Teck and Nicola Valley Lower Indian Band meeting, logger sports event, and movie night at NVIT
  • Councillor Prowal attended UBCM, meetings with the Ministry transition team in relation to the Tolko mill closure, Naturalist Society meeting, Tourism and Economic Development Committee meeting, movie night at NVIT, logger sports event
  • Councillor Baker attended UBCM and thanked Council for their support through the Tolko mill closure
  • Mayor Menard attended UBCM, meetings with the Ministry transition team in relation to the Tolko mill closure, Nicola Valley Endowment Fund meeting at the hospital, grand opening of the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, spoke at the Crossroads Community Church, Committee of the Whole meeting regarding downtown parking, Police Committee meeting, TNRD meeting, logger sports event, Lower Nicola Garlic Festival, Governors meeting, Mayor’s drop-in, and Old Age Pensioners Conference
