THAT City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2247, 2018 (2190 Voght Street) be read a third time
 
NEW BUSINESS
 
THAT Council adopt the City of Merritt Purchasing Policy
 
THAT Council adopt the City of Merritt Video Surveillance Systems Policy
 
THAT Council rescind the Communications Plan Policy
 
THAT Council rescind the RV Guest Accommodations on Private Property Policy
 
THAT Council direct staff to bring a report to Council, providing information and requesting Council direction regarding Secondary Suites
 
THAT Council direct staff to research the preparation of a City Bylaw to confiscate skateboards and bikes
 
THAT Council direct staff to proceed with taking the necessary steps to bring forward three (3) Intercommunity Business Licence Agreement Bylaws to Council in 2019
 
THAT Council approves a 2018 Extraordinary Grant in Aid in the amount of $3,500, requested by the Merritt Bread Basket/Soup Bowl (MBBSB) for financial assistance for the purchase and installation of a new range/stove to be funded through the available Financial Aid Grant in Aid funds and the Council Contingency fund

AND THAT Council direct staff to include a request for the MBBSB to apply during the fall Grant in Aid intake for future requests of this nature

REPORTS FROM COUNCIL
  • Councillor Baker shared parting thoughts about his time on Council and expressed his thanks to staff, citizens and the community of Merritt for their support.
  • Councillor Norgaard attended a meeting with Tolko and thanked the citizens of Merritt for their support during her term on Council.
  • Councillor Goetz extended thanks to City of Merritt staff, and a special thanks to Carole Fraser for their work during his terms on Council.  He thanked the citizens of Merritt, his wife, and Councillor Baker for continuing to serve on Council even after his move.
  • Councillor Prowal thanked departing Councillors for their service, attended the Korean banquet and dance, the Environment Committee meeting (no quorum), and the all candidates forum.
  • Councillor Brown attended a TNRD Book Club meeting, the Provincial Winter Fair, a snow removal meeting, the Garlic Festival, Korean Culture Day, the Arts Council Potluck, a proportional representation meeting, the firefighters awards and banquet night, volunteered at the Merritt Country run, the Collettville school, the all candidates forum and mayoral candidate radio round-up, the Parkview AGM, and attended a recognition ceremony at the legion for her father’s 46 years of service.
  • Councillor Christopherson represented the City of Merritt at the Investiture of Grand Chief Percy Joe, the Korean Culture day, a Country Christmas meeting, and a meeting with Tolko reps.  Councillor Christopherson expressed thanks to the Chamber of Commerce and Community futures for their efforts on trying to spur downtown growth, and thanked Mayor and Council for their efforts.
  • Mayor Menard presented a card from the Little Britches Rodeo, expressed thanks to Dave, Diana and Mike for their years of service to the community and wished good luck to all of those running.  Mayor Menard attended the official opening of the NVIT gym and culinary centre, TNRD Board meetings, Korean Culture Day, the Memorial Roping event, the Garlic Festival, the Aboriginal Advisory council, a Nicola Valley Regional teleconference meeting, the Firefighters award night, the Pacific Forest Rally, the Cents Humboldt memorial hockey game, the Merritt Country run, a presentation at the legion, the Lakeview Adult community meeting regarding flooding, and a Diamond Vale school tour.
