Ms. Kiegerl discussed the Arts Council’s successes and programs for 2018. Most of the programs that ran in 2018 will be continuing in 2019, with the addition of building a Nicola Valley Artists Database and commencing a big band project. Ms. Kiegerl emphasized the importance of the Arts Council as a community asset.
Mr. Lynn shared a First Nations prayer prior and asked if Council had any questions regarding the proposed business plan. Ms. Narjes presented the plans for the proposed facility and explained that a total of $100 million in funding is needed, but that only $5.2 million is needed for phase 1. Ms. Narjes and Mr. Lynn explained how there is a large amount of funding available through horse industry grants at both the provincial and federal levels, but that support from the City is required before the Society can successfully receive these grants. The society explained that the best scenario would be for the City to purchase the lands and lease them to the Society.
THAT Council direct staff to conduct a review of the City’s snow removal program including a review of priorities, techniques, equipment, staffing and budget levels and report back to Council with recommendations
