Public Input:

Ms. G. Prowal made comments to Council regarding the Air Quality Standards including that there are two types of emissions one being toxic emissions and the second being dust particles suggesting that any bylaws the City develops on Air Quality must have the ability and will to enforce and should include older facilities in order to clean them up

General Matters:
  1. Brent Ashby, KPMG to present the City of Merritt 2012 Audited Financial Statement

  2. Mr. B. Ashby, KMPG presented to Council the 2012 Audited Financial Statements highlighting any major changes and  increases/decreases over the 2011 Audited Financial Statements

Unfinished Business:
  1. THAT further to Council resolution 064/13 approved April 09, 2013; Council appoints Councillor Norgaard to be the Council representative to the proposed Marketing Advisory Committee of Tourism Nicola Valley and to act as “liaison” between the City and Tourism Nicola Valley
  2. THAT staff provide a report on the drafting of a bylaw to be developed on the Air Quality Standards that are permitted for any new or modified commercial or industrial facilities;

    AND THAT the report include that the standards should meet or exceed those that were required of the Green Energy Plant;
    AND FURTHER THAT the report address any implications and/or cost impacts of the new standards on residents or new development

New Business:
  1. THAT Council accepts the 2012 Audited Financial Statements as presented
  2. THAT the City enter into an agreement with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada for the installation of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) unit in the Merritt Civic Centre;

    AND THAT the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer be authorized to execute the agreement on behalf of the City

  3. THAT the City enter into a contract with Fraser Valley Vending to provide vending services to City facilities for the period of July 01, 2013 to June 30, 2023;
    AND THAT the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer be authorized to execute the agreement on behalf of the City

  4. THAT Council remove committee member Dave Fahlman from the Directional Signage Committee
  5. THAT Council direct City staff to compile an inventory of existing directional signage throughout the City including annual maintenance costs, life span of existing signs;

    AND THAT the basic program be built into future budget discussions

Notices of Motion:

Councillor Kroeker brought forth the following Notice of Motion:

  1. THAT as the Directional Signage Committee is lacking members;
    AND THAT as people have shown an interest in serving on the committee, that Anoop Sekhon, Darrell Brooks and Robert Miller be appointed to the Directional Signage Committee;
    AND FURTHER THAT the appointments be made as soon as possible

Mayor Roline attended the graduation of NVIT students and declared June 01, 2013 as “Access Awareness Day”
