NEW BUSINESS

THAT Council awards the Voght Street Turn Lane tender to C.G.L. Contracting Limited in the amount of one hundred eighty thousand four hundred thirteen dollars and twenty-five cents ($180,413.25) excluding GST; AND THAT the Mayor and Corporate Officer be authorized to execute the required documents 
 
THAT Council direct staff to prepare a report regarding options to amend the City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw to limit cannabis retail sales to one or more existing zones and that the report include all relevant considerations, such as minimum distance requirements, potential exclusion zones and hours of operation requirements
 
THAT Council remove Danica Vere from the Tourism & Economic Development Committee due to a poor attendance record

NOTICES OF MOTION

REPORTS FROM COUNCIL

  • Councillor Goetz provided a gas buddies update and raised concerns about garbage at Exit 286, suggesting that the City consider putting garbage cans at the site.
  • Councillor Norgaard attended all council meetings, thanked the RCMP Officer who directed traffic at Dewolf Way on May 21 as roads started to back up, and discussed whether the City should be putting some form of notice up at Exit 286 indicating that it was not the City of Merritt that made the decision to close the visitor centre, but Destination B.C.
  • Councillor Baker attended the Cannabis Committee of the Whole meeting, thanked all those involved in flood mitigation efforts and congratulated the winners of the People’s Choice awards.
  • Councillor Christopherson attended a Tourism and Economic Development meeting, the Cannabis Committee of the Whole meeting, and a jazz concert presented by the Nicola Valley Arts Council.  Councillor Christopherson echoed the comments of other Councillors regarding Exit 286.
  • Councillor Prowal attended the Tourism and Economic Development meeting, the Cannabis Committee of the Whole meeting, the NVIT Grad ceremony as acting mayor to offer congratulations on behalf of the City, and a Naturalist Society meeting.  Councillor Prowal signed two evacuation orders as acting mayor and raised the continuing issues arising from Exit 286.
  • Mayor Menard had a meeting with staff from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, sent a letter to the Attorney General regarding issues related to driver licencing and training, and a letter to the Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations, and Rural Development about timber supply and issues around Exit 286, attended the Trans Mountain and Kinder Morgan rally’s, a meeting with RCMP, the Cannabis Committee of the Whole meeting, a Wellness Society meeting, a TNRD Solid Waste management meeting, a TNRD board meeting, a Centennials board meeting, a meeting with MLA Taggart and Andrew Wilkinson regarding flooding, and a meeting with Minister Mike Farnsworth regarding flooding.
