General Matters:
  1. Mr. Wayne Dreger, Director ATV/BC presented to Council that the Quad Riders ATV Association of British Columbia will be holding a “Poker Ride” at the Rodeo Grounds in Merritt June 25, 2011 with an expected 300-500 riders.  The Association has held discussions with the Merritt RCMP and requested Council provide their support to allow the riders to cross the road at the rodeo grounds with no interference to traffic and the ATV/BC Association will monitor the road
  2. Ms. Etelka  Gillespie, Publisher, Merritt Herald presented to Council that the Merritt Herald is seeking approval for official status for the “Things to Do in the Nicola Valley” guide.  Ms. Gillespie requested a sponsorship of the cover position of the visitor’s guide from the City of Merritt at a cost of $1,200.00
Unfinished Business:
  1. With regards to the "Official" visitor guide designation, Council directed staff to prepare a report addressing the issue of coverage each newspaper visitor guide provides
Bylaws:
  1. Council adopted the City of Merritt Cemetery Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2112, 2011
  2. Council adopted the City of Merritt Elections and Voting Procedure and Automated Voting Machines Authorization Bylaw No. 213, 2011
New Business:
  1. Council resolved THAT the twelve (12) registration packages (including full event access wristbands, t-shirt, pin, program, maps etc.) from the “Gold Level” sponsorship to the Great Canadian Bike Rally being held July 14-17, 2011 be offered to the public in a lottery format; and that staff place the lottery application on the City’s website and on the City pages in the newspapers with the drawbeing done on April 14, 2011.  Council also provided direction to staff regarding limitations for the entry applications
  2. Council discussed the recommendation from the Environmental Awareness Committee of the possibility of the glass recylcing bin (with the 2 round holes for glass depsoits) being replaced at the Recyling Depot.   Councillor Clarke will take Council’s comments back to the Environmental Awareness Committee.  It was suggested that the Environmental Awareness Committee communicate to the public the dangers of placing glass in the blue recycling bags
  3. The City authorizes the Leisure Services Manager to apply for a Canada Day Celebration grant in order to help recover some of the costs for the Canada Day event
  4. The City of Merritt apply for the Community Tourism Opportunities Grant for tourism signage
  5. Councillor Sanders attend the Rural Tourism Conference in April in 100 Mile House
