GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

  • Ms. L. Fehr presented to Council an introduction to Active Transportation Merritt requesting City Council mandate that a staff member work with Active Transportation Merritt to create a plan for active transportation in and around Merritt
  • Ms. R. Brewer made a presentstion to Council in the first quarter activities of Citizens on Patrol

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  • THAT Council direct staff to prepare a letter of support for the upcoming Bass Coast Music Festival 
  • THAT staff provide a report outlining City policies and practices that demonstrate environmental responsibility

BYLAWS

  • THAT the City of Merritt Solid Waste Collection, Disposal and Control Amendment Bylaw 2188, 2015 be adopted
  • THAT the City of Merritt Municipal Ticket Information Amendment Bylaw 2189, 2015 be adopted 

NEW BUSINESS

  • THAT the report from the Baillie House Visitor Information Centre for January and February 2015 be received
  • THAT Council authorizes notice of its intention to dispose of City's property, a portion of Lot 2, PLan 29664, District Lot 174 Kamloops Division, PID #004-201-728, also known as the Merritt Tennis Complex, via a lease agreement with the Merritt Tennis Club during the period from April 14, 2015 to April 13, 2018, with a specified annual payment of one ($1.00) dollar plus applicable taxes be tabled until the Merritt Tennis Club provides financial statements satisfactory to Leisure Services Manager
  • THAT the lease agreement between the City and the Merritt Curling Club, for the Merritt Curling Club facility, (Lot 2, Plan 22544, District Lot 174, Kamloops Division PID #006-810-853) for the period of March 25, 2015 to March 24, 2020, with a specified annual payment of one ($1.00) dollar plus applicable taxes be approved;  AND THAT the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer/Corporate Officer be authorized to execute the agreement on behalf of the City   Voting Opposed:  Councillor Brown

  • THAT Council reconsider the motion to table the lease agreement between the City of Merritt and the Merritt Tennis Club   Voting Opposed:  Councillor Goetz

  • THAT the lease agreement between the City of Merritt and the Merritt Tennis Club be amended by adding a provision that the Merritt Tennis Club provide financial statements on an annual basis   Voting opposed: Councilor Goetz  

  • THAT Council authorizes notice of its intention to dispose of City's property, a portion of Lot 2, Plan 29664, District Lot 174 Kamloops Division, PID #004-201-278, also known as the Merritt Tennis Complex, via a lease agreement as amended by adding the provision of financial statements with the Merritt Tennis Club during the period from April 14, 2015 to April 13, 2018 with a specified annual payment of one ($1.00) dollar plus applicable taxes   Voting opposed: Councillor Goetz

  • THAT Council adopts the amended Employee Recognition policy by recognizing retirees in the policy statements and adding the following clause:  The City also wishes to acknowledge the dedication and service of retired employees.  To do so, retired employees and spouses will be invited to the annual Employee Recognition dinner every year with the cost of the dinner covered by the City within the calendar year of the employee retirement and the retiree paying for the cost of the dinner in subsequent years   Voting Opposed: Mayor Menard

REPORTS FROM COUNCIL

  • Councillor Prowal reported on the Gold Country Communities Society meeting held February 25th with the next meeting being held May 15th and reminded Council the Adopt-A-Road clean-up is scheduled for March 30th 
  • Councillor Christopherson attended the Kinder Morgan presentation on March 11th, Housing First workshop, met with the NDP Environment critic and the Chamber of Commerce AGM on March 12th, and played the piano for the residents of Gillis House on March 24th    
  • Councillor Goetz reported the latest gas buddy prices; announced he will no longer be hosting a meet the Councillor drop-in session as Mayor Menard provides all the information required from his drop-in sessions and invited the community out to the first Farmers' Market in May in honour of Ms. M. Mitchell
  • Councillor Norgaard reported on the success of the Scwexmx annual youth conference being held March 24th and 25th at the Civic Centre
  • Councillor Brown attended the Kinder Morgan presentation, Housing First workshop, Merritt Integration Committee meeting, luncheon with NDP Environmental critic, Heart of Leadership seminar, a fund raiser and a field trip to Coopers with Bench Elementary school
  • Councillor Baker attended the Chamber of Commerce AGM on March 12th
  • Mayor Menard attended the Kinder Morgan presentation; met with Harry Lali and NDP Environment critic Spencer Herbert; attended TNRD Board meeting March 12th and 13th where he met with Minister Lake to discuss the Merritt Hospital; swore in the new executive at the Chamber of Commerce AGM on March 12th; met with Minister Pollack to discuss bio solids with TNRD; held a drop-in session March 18th; toured Douglas Lake Ranch March 23rd and attended the First Nations junior hockey tournament
