  •  Nil

GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

  •  Councillor K. Christopherson declared a perceived conflict of interest as he is a Director on the Nicola Valley Community Theatre Board and left the meeting at 7:02 p.m. Councillor D. Norgaard declared a perceived conflict of interest as her family is a shareholder in the Nicola Valley Community Theatre Society and left the meeting at 7:02 p.m. Nicola Valley Community Theatre Society made a power point presentation The Nicola Valley Community Theatre Society is requesting forgiveness for costs associated with the Development Permit Application Fee, the Development Cost Charges, the Building Permit Fee, plumbing, sprinkler and water meter costs totaling eighty-five thousand eight hundred and thirty-one ($85,831) dollars Councillors Christopherson and Norgaard returned to the meeting at 7:13 p.m.
  •  Mr. J. Connors, Interior Health presented a “Smoke Free Communities” power presentation to Council outlining:  Health impact , Tobacco Use: the Reality, Children and second hand smoke, Adults and second hand smoke, Outdoor tobacco smoke pollution, Benefits of quitting, Environment & economic impacts, Outdoor smoking bylaws, Benefits for Merritt.  The delegation asked that Council pass a motion for staff to develop a report recommending a smoke-free bylaw for the City of Merritt
  • Mr. J. Morrison & Mr. B. Thomas, Spectra Energy presented a power point presentation to Council discussing the following:
    • What Spectra Energy does
    • Commitment to safety
    • Spectra Energy in British Columbia
    • Building business and community
    • Projects and maintenance work
    o Starting work in April in the area, will be happening through the summer

  • UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  • Council advises the Director of Corporate Services as to the quote that shall be placed on the “Supporter of Note” award for Andrea Rogers 

NEW BUSINESS

  •   THAT the recommendation for the Establishment of Committees be deferred to the next Regular Council meeting with more clarity provided

City of Merritt Council Remuneration Bylaw No. 2206, 2016 was read a first, second and third time

NOTICES OF MOTION

  • Nil

    REPORTS FROM COUNCIL

  • Councillor Baker commented on the last Police Committee meeting and congratulated the PeeWee Hockey Team 
  • Councillor Brown attended the skating carnival; Community Futures; Economic Development “Green Tourism” seminar; NVIT film and with Councillor Prowal had lunch with MLA Jackie Tegart
  • Councillor Prowal attended film at NVIT; skate carnival; Legion pizza night; “Logger shoe” discussions; had lunch with MLA Jackie Tegart and participated in the Adopt-a-Road clean-up
  • Councillor Goetz provided the latest gas buddy prices and attended the Farmer’s Market Annual meeting 
  • Councillor Christopherson was the master of ceremonies at the skating carnival; played piano for the seniors at Gillis House and attended the Tourism & Economic Development   
  • Councillor Norgaard attended a mental health session (Federal and Provincial commitment to mental health) for use toward Detox Centre and is enjoying the Policing Committee 
  • Mayor Menard congratulated the PeeWee hockey team for their outstanding performance in Vancouver; attended the Police Committee meeting; skating carnival; Nicola Valley Search & Rescue Meeting; TNRD meetings and Art Exposition in Kamloops after the TNRD meeting
