Public Input:
  1. Mr. Brian Sims from Community Futures Thompson Country spoke to Council regarding the lease office space request
General Matters:
  1. Ms. M. Brigden, Merritt Volleyball Association presented to Council the Volleyball Association's request for the City to waive all fees for the use of the Civic Centre April 14-15, 2012 and April 28-29, 2012 for the Merritt Volleyball Association mixed and ladies tournaments
Unfinished Business:
  1. Council accepted the Merritt Herald's Visitor's Guide proposal as the 2012 "Official Visitor's Guide" for the City of Merritt at the cost of $2,000 for the back cover with the option to negotiate additional advertising space and copies for distribution by the City of Merritt
  2. Council accepted the City entering into a 5 year lease agreement from April 01, 2012 to March 31, 2017 with Community Futures Thompson Countrty for the 1500 square feet City Hall lower space, plus access to the Community Room when available, for the rate of $13,800 plus applicable taxes in year 1 and annual cost escalators of 3% each year for the life of the contract
Bylaws:
  1. Council gave the Merritt Business Licence Amending Bylaw No. 2130, 2012 first, second and third readings
New Business:
  1. Council authorizes the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer to execute the proposed Fire Suppression Agreement between the City of Merritt and the Lower Nicola Indian Band under the terms herein
  2. Council resolved that a letter be sent to the BC Premier, with copies to the Minister responsible for Community, Sport and Cultural Development, the local MLA, UBCM and UBCM member municipalities, which indicates the City of Merritt's objection to the composition of the "Expert Panel" in that there are no panel member representatives from local government municipalities
  3. Council adopted the Terms of Reference for the 2012 Airport Committee and appointed the following to the Airport Committee:  Mayor Susan Roline, Councillor Harry Kroker, Councillor Mike Goetz, Herb Graham and Roy Cunningham
  4. Council adopted the Terms of Reference for the 2012 Water Resource Advisory Committee and appointed the following to the Water Resource Advisory Committee:  Councillor Norm Brigden, Ginny Prowal, Sue Peachey, Glen Arendt, Maryann Bowles and Sheila Curnow
Reports:
  1. Councillor Goetz congratulated Cameron Snee on his performance on "Canada's Got Talent", wished him well on future shows and expressed how proud Merritt is of him
  2. Councillor Norgaard thanked Ginny Prowal for her constant and dedicated work on the Water Resource Advisory Committee
  3. Councillor Baker attended the School District No. 58 meeting and advised everyone that the next meeting of the School District is March 22, 2012 regarding the plan for the future of our schools
  4. Councillor Brigden commented on the new City garbage bin rollout and gave kudos to the Public Works Department regarding the savings at the TNRD landfill now that every garbage load is being weighed
  5. Mayor Roline advised that Council met with the School Trustees and School District No. 58 and that she was happy to announce that Harinder Singh, the priest for the Sikh Temple has not been deported and has another year to complete his papers
