GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

  • Ms. J. Green and Ms. C. Audet presented to Council the Healthy Communities Initiative and partnering with local governments to promote healthier communities

    Interior Health would like to formalize a partnership agreement with the City of Merritt to continue increasing actions that improve the health and wellness of its’ residents and reduce risk factors for chronic disease

  • Mr. R. Martindale made a presentation to Council requesting an amendment to the current sign bylaws with respect to the use/placement of a “multi user sign” for the downtown businesses

  • Council authorizes the issuance of Development Variance Permit DVP2015-02 (2190 Voght Street)

  • BYLAWS

  • Council adopted the City of Merritt Cemetery Bylaw No.2175, 2015  
  • Council adopted the City of Merritt Fees and Charges Bylaw No. 2176, 2015  
  • Council adopted the City of Merritt Waterworks Bylaw No. 2181, 2015  
  • Council adopted the City of Merritt Sanitary Sewer Bylaw No. 2182, 2015  
  • Council adopted the City of Merritt Solid Waste Collection, Disposal and Control Bylaw No. 2183, 2015  
  • Council accepted and approved the Zoning Amendment Application for 2190 Voght Street and directed staff to process the application 
  • Council adopted the City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2194, 2015 
  • Council adopted the City of Merritt Municipal Ticket Information Bylaw Amendment No. 2195, 2015  

NEW BUSINESS

  • Council accepts the appeal from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 96and considers the property for full permissive tax exemption status in future years.  The organization’s rich history, operation by volunteers, contribution to the community as a service and the not for profit status provide cause for an exemption to Section 1.4 of the Permissive Tax Exemption Policy for properties with relation to commercial activity
  •  Council accepts the appeal from the Merritt Crossroads Community Church and considers the property for full permissive tax exemption status in future years.  The Church’s long list of nonprofit community services provides cause for an exemption to Section 1.2 of the Permissive Tax Exemption Policy for properties greater than one (1) hectare
  • Council receives the financial statements for the Merritt Volleyball Association and not approve the grant funding of one thousand ($1,000) dollars for the organization was defeated by Council
  • Council accepted the quarterly report for March, April and May 2015 from the Merritt Visitor Information @ Baillie House

REPORTS FROM COUNCIL

  • Councillor Prowal attended the Country Run and Healthy Living open house on June 13th; TOTA workshop on June 18th; Aboriginal Day on June 21st; Coopers celebration and the Bench school graduation on June 22nd and reminded folks of the Legion Week with hotdogs/hamburgers on June 27th 
  • Councillor Goetz attended the Coopers celebration on June 22nd and provided that latest gas buddy prices
  • Councillor Brown attended many functions at Bench Elementary as well as Music in the Park on June 18th and the Coopers celebration on June 22nd 
  • Councillor Norgaard reminded Council of the Adopt-A-Road clean-up on June 29th 
  • Mayor Menard attended a First Nations Infrastructure workshop in Kamloops as well as the First Nations graduation ceremony on June 11th; judged the talent show and reviewed the Rocky Mountain Rangers on June 13th; attended the Merritt Country Run on June 14th; TNRD Board Meeting on June 17th and TNRD Committee of the Whole on June 18th, met the Ride to Survive riders on June 20th and the Dance Academy Awards night on June 22nd
