General Matters:
  1. Ms. E. Clark and Mr. A. Clark presented to Council the goals of the water conservation students for the summer of 2011.  Their goals to date and for the balance of their contract along with accomplishments to date include:
    • »writing articles for the newspapers on xeriscaping and water conservation
    • »educating residents and commercial businesses on water conservartion
    • »continuing patrols
    • »door hangars and book marks
    • »school presentations
    • »re-vamping the website
    • »displays
    • »assessment on universal water metering project
Bylaws:
  1. City of Merritt Noise Abatement Amendemt Bylaw No. 2104, 2010 was defeated
  2. City of Merritt Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 2116, 2011 was give first and second reading and submitted to a Public Hearing on June 28, 2011
New Business:
  1. Council approved the erection of a "Drought Level Sign" with the City logo on the hill slope above Crossroads Community Church and waived the sign permit application fee
  2. Council granted permission to the Vancouver Soaring Association for the use of the Merritt Airport and Facilities August 06-21, 2011
  3. Council lended support for the Coldwater Hotel's application to the Liquor Control and Licensing Bramch for a temporary extension to their licensed area
  4. Council approved Merritt's 100th Anniversary Committee's application for a Special Occasion Liquor License for the Community Dance scheduled July 30, 2011 at Rotary Park
  5. Council resolved to remain with the Alpha Design bench design for the benches for the downtown core under the Community Enhancement/Memorial Recognition Program
  6. Council set the dealine for receiving elector responses as part of the alternative approval process for City of Merritt Airport Subdivision and Servicing Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 2119, 2011 as  August 02, 2011
  7. Council directed Public Works to designate a test area for the planting of perennials and plants that reproduce rather than planting annuals every year
  8. Council directed Public Works to investigate and designate a test area to seed white clover over grass as an alternative to pesticide use
  9. Council accepted the January, February and March 2011 Economic Development Services report from Community Futures Nicola Valley
  10. Mayor Roline declared June 2011 as "Literacy Month"
  11. Council directed Leisure Services to provide Literacy Merritt with multiple pool passes to be used as prizes for Get Unplugged and Play
Reports from Council:
  1. Councillor Baker reported he attended the Protective Services Appreciation Dinner as well as the Relay for Life
  2. Councillor Sanders also attended the Relay for Life and along with Mayor Roline and Chief Administrative Officer Matt Noble attended the Hotel/Motel Association meeting
  3. Councillor Goetz complimented Councillor Sanders and the Communities in BLoom Committee for all the clean-up efforts within the City
  4. Councillor Murdoch reported that effective Saturday, July 02, 2011 BC Transit will increase bus service to 6 days per week/15 hours per day
  5. Mayor Roline commented she participated  in the opening ceremonies for the Relay for Life and alos attended the Country Run
