GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

 S/Sgt S. White presented the RCMP Merritt Detachment Second Quarter Policing Activity Report (April-June 2016) advising of new members at the detachment (members were introduced to Council) as well as the new Corporal

S/Sgt S. White presented to Council the RCMP Merritt Detachment 2nd Quarter report highlighting areas of:
• General Duty
• General Investigation Section
• Domestic Violence
• Victim Services
• Drug Trends
• Human Resources
• Crime Statistics
• Statistics
• Comparison between 2015 and 2016

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

THAT Council appoint Graeme Beverly, Ross Gregory and Darcy Hefferman to be members of the Board of Variance pursuant to Section 2 of the City of Merritt Board of Variance Bylaw No. 1919, 2005
Voting Opposed:  Councillor Brown

THAT Council appoint Councillors Christopherson, Goetz and Prowal to the Environment Select Committee  

THAT Council appoint Councillor Norgaard to the City Social Planning Committee

THAT the Mayor appoint Councillors Baker and Brown to the City Policy Review Standing Committee

NEW BUSINESS

THAT Council accept the 2016 Second Quarter Report for the Visitors Information Booth at the Baillie House

THAT Council authorizes staff to purchase a one thousand ($1,000) dollar sponsorship in support of the Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo’s Kid Zone to be funded through the City Initiative Fund; AND THAT Council direct staff to include a request for the Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo Association to apply during the fall Grant-in-Aid intake for this event in the future

THAT Council receive the January to June 2016 Budget Position Report as submitted

THAT the City of Merritt participate in the Lower Nicola Indian Band 2016 Open House;

AND THAT the City’s Economic Development Manager attend the event and participate by setting up an information booth

  • Councillor Goetz provided the latest gas buddy prices; attended the Car Show, Pickleball opening ceremonies and reminded everyone of the upcoming Special Olympics at Mary Brown’s Chicken on July 27th   
  • Councillor Norgaard attended the Pickleball opening ceremonies, Christmas Tree Enchantment Program and reminded everyone of the Community Futures Annual General Meeting on July 27th   
  • Councillor Christopherson had nothing to report
  • Councillor Prowal attended the Pickleball opening ceremonies and the Show and Shine 
  • Mayor Menard attended the Community Policing Office open house, Thompson Nicola Regional District Board meeting and Solid Waste Management meeting, Merritt Centennials Golf Tournament and Meet and Greet, Forestry Management meeting, pipeline round table meeting, Brian Barrett induction into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame and the Show and Shine
