General Matters:
  1. Mr. Dan Murphy, Youth Council Coordinator made a presentation to Council.  Mr. Murphy provided background material on the facilitation and formation of the Youth Council as well as their intended role in the community as an advisory to organizations and Council to bridge the gap between the community at large and the youth community. The Youth Council extended an invitation to Council to attend any of their weekly Wednesday evening meetings held at the Teen Centre
  2. Council voted unanimously to allow Mr. Walter Fords to present to Council his views on the BC Hydro Smart Meter program
Unfinished Business:
  1. Council passed a resolution that Council deny the recommendations of the Airport Committee Meeting of June 13, 2011 and request the Airport Committee meet with Administration on August 08, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. and provide recommendations that are clear and within regulations that are supportable by Council
New Business:
  1. Council approved Merritt Mixed Slow Pitch League's "Team Detox's" application for a Special Occasion Liquor Licence for their year-end tournament scheduled for August 06-07, 2011 at Central Park
  2. Council directed its response to the Thompson-Nicola Regional District regarding Active Mountaib Racewaay land use amendments as follows:
    • »The City recommends support of the proposed development
    • »The proposed development can be supplied by the City of Merritt community water system
    • »The proposed development can connect to the City of Merritt community sanitary sewer system
  3. Council approved the $7,000 payment to Gold Country for the 2011 membership and authorized the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer to execute the agreement between the City of Merritt and Gold Country Communities Society
  4. Council tabled the motion regarding financial partnerships until Councillor Kroeker is present to provide input and clarification of the intent of the motion
  5. Council appointed Julie VanKoll to the Directional Signage Committee representing the Merritt & District Chamber of Commerce
Reports from Council:
  1. Councillor Goetz congratulated Mike Fairfield and his crew on the success of the Great Canadian Bike Rally, our local golfer at the Canadian Open and Councillor Sanders and the Communities in Bloom Committee and commented on the number and variations of activities to take part in on a weekend within the City.
  2. Councillor Sanders on behalf of the Communities in Bloom Committee thanked the Public Works Department and Bylaw Enforcement Officer for their assistance in making the City look great
  3. Mayor Roline invited everyone to the 100th Anniversary celebrations officially kicking off at 1:00 pm at Baillie House with Pioneer Day on Wednesday, July 27, 2011
