January 25, 2011 Regular Council Meeting

General Matters:
  1. Merritt Walk of Stars - Mr. R. Sanders, President, Merritt Walk of Stars Society presented to Council the Merritt Walk of Stars-City of Merritt Partnership Program.  Mr. Sanders presented the following:
    • 2010/2011 fiscal year funding report
    • 2010/2011 funding from the City of Merritt and leveraging the funding
    • Value of the project
    • Partnership activities, objectives and deliveries
    • Moving forward 2011/2012 funding request
Unfinished Business:
  1. Council referred the prosed implementation of the First Responder Program tot he 2011 budget deliberations for consideration
New Business:
  1. Council resolved that the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer execute the propsed Mutual Aid Agreement between the City of Merritt and the District of Logan Lake under the terms herein
  2. Council approved the City Directional Signage Terms of Reference as proposed by the City Centre Board
  3. Council referred up to fifty thousand ($50,000) dollars to the 2011 budget for signage matters
  4. Council appointeded the following persons to the Outdoor Recreational Facility Users Committee:
    • »representing Merritt Barbarians Rugby Club – Ray Dustin with Ryan Reid as alternate
    • »representing Merritt Youth Soccer – Gary Dixon with Eric Weiser as alternate
    • »representing Nicola Valley Minor Lacrosse – Kelly Bartch with Ron Hartwig alternate
    • »City Corporate Liaison – Leisure Services Manager
  5. Council directed staff to advertise the Sprinkling Regulations in the newspapers, radio, City website and Shaw Cable beginning April 2011 as well as inserted in the 2011 Property Tax notices
Notices of Motion:
  1. Councillor Sanders made a Notice of Motion: THAT the City ensure up to one thousand ($1,000) dollars be set aside during budget deliberations to recognize the volunteers within the City of Merritt
Reports from Council:
  1. Councillor Baker advised the community that the Wood Stove Symposium is being held Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Civic Centre
Information Items:
  1. Council directed staff to invite S/Sgt Todd to make a presentation to Council
