Public Input:
  1. Walter Vohradsky spoke to Council regarding the BC Hydro "Smart Meters" sighting health issues and requested Council pass a motion requesting the provincial government place a moratorium on the installation of "Smart Meters" in Merritt
  2. Mrs. Mitchell spoke to Council regarding the BC Hydro "Smart Meters" sighting human rights and democracy issues and requested Council pass a motion requesting the provincial government place a moratorium on the installation of "Smart Meters" in Merritt
  3. Mrs. Tomchuk spoke to Council regarding the BC Hydro "Smart Meters" sighting insurance issues and requested Council pass a motion requesting the provincial government place a moratorium on the installation of "Smart Meters" in Merritt
  4. Mr. Tomchuk spoke to Council regarding the BC Hydro "Smart Meters" sighting privacy and cost issues and requested Council pass a motion requesting the provincial government place a moratorium on the installation of "Smart Meters" in Merritt
  5. Vicky Lightfoot spoke to Council regarding the BC Hydro "Smart Meters" sighting health and well being of citizens as well as the denial of the democratic process by the provincial government as issues and requested Council pass a motion requesting the provincial government place a moratorium on the installation of "Smart Meters" in Merritt
  6. Debra Rose spoke to Council regarding the BC Hydro "Smart Meters" requesting Council pass a motion requesting the provincial government place a moratorium on the installation of "Smart Meters" in Merritt
Unfinished Business:
  1. Council defeated the motion THAT Council advise the provincial government being the Premier's Officer and the Minister of Health with copies to BC Hydro that the City wishes a moratorium be placed on the installation of BC Hydro "Smart Meters" in the City of Merritt
  2. Council resolved to invite representation from BC Hydro and Nicola Valley Safe Technology Advocates to debate and answer questions regarding "Smart Meters" at either a Committee of the Whole or a Town Hall Meeting
Bylaws:
  1. Council adopted the City of Merritt Revitalization Tax Exemption Bylaw No. 2128, 2012
New Business:
  1. Council accepted the amended Council Committee Policy as circulated
  2. Council approved the following Council Committees for 2012:
    -Select Committees - Air Quality Committee and Water Resource Advisory Committee
    -Short Term Select Committees - Directional Signage Committee and Airport Committee
    -Standing Committees - Audit Committee, Policy Review Committee and Economic Development & Tourism Committee
    -Commissions - Community Heritage Commission
  3. Council accepted the 2011 year end report from Nicola Valley Heritage Society
  4. Council approved the provision of funds for early bird registration for Communities in Bloom
Reports:
  1. Councillor Norgaard commented on the excellent information received at the Elected Officials Seminar she attended in Kelowna January 18-20
  2. Councillor Brigden echoed Councillor Norgaard's comments
  3. Councillor Baker reported he and Councillor Kroeker attended the Child and Youth Committee meeting on January 24th
  4. Mayor Roline attended the Returning and Newly Elected Officials Seminar in Richmond January 11-13 and commented on the effective presentations
