After the Minutes were adopted the following motion was made:

  • THAT Council direct staff to respond to the letter received from Nicola-Similkameen School District No. 58 dated November 21, 2014 and received as an Information Item at the December 16, 2014 Regular Council Meeting

GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

  • Nil


  • THAT the lease agreement between the City and the Merritt Lawn Bowling Club, for the Merritt Lawn Bowling Facility (Remainder of Lot B, Plan 26552 KDY) for the period of December 01, 2014 to November 30, 2015, with a specified annual payment of $1.00 plus applicable taxes be approved


  • Nil


  • THAT Council authorizes a one (1) year extension to Temporary Use Permit TUP 2013-02 (LNG Fueling Station) expiring January 14, 2016
  • THAT Council approves Development Permit DP2014-R (2074 Quilchena Avenue) and authorizes issuance of the permit 


  • Councillor Goetz submitted the following Notice of Motion: 
    THAT any and all bio solids being disposed of within City limits from areas outside of the City will need a permit as well as public notice and signs posted on property for the prescribed period of time
  • Councillor Brown submitted the following Notice of Motion:
    THAT Council review the issues regarding toxic sludge in Sunshine Valley with an intent to take the motion to SILGA and if successful, ultimately to UBCM


  • Councillor Christopherson attended the mingle and jingle hosted by the City, Merritt & District Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures Nicola Valley on December 19, 2014 and advised that the next meeting of the Merritt Integration Project is January 14, 2015
  • Councillor Goetz advised of the current gas prices in Merritt, Kamloops, Vernon, Kelowna and Vancouver and that his fist “speak with a Councillor” session will be at Tim Horton’s on January 26, 2015 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Councillor Prowal also attended the mingle and jingle and advised of the Nicola Naturalist Society meeting on January 15, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the NVIT lecture theatre with Norm Hansen presenting “Ice Dams of the Nicola Valley” 
  • Councillor Brown attended the mingle and jingle and took a drive out to Sunshine Valley to see for herself the toxic sludge – could not find the sludge but definitely smelt it
  • Mayor Menard also attended the mingle and jingle on December 19, hosted by the City of Merritt, Merritt & District Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures Nicola Valley
