GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

  • Ms. A. Graham and Ms. L. Thomson shared with Council a video from Bass Coast 2015 and invited everyone to Bass Coast 2016 
  • S/Sgt S. White had three officers introduce themselves:
    • Corporal Rick Aird, First Nations Corporal
    • Constable Daniel Leung, new member to Merritt RCMP Detachment from depot in Regina.  Merritt is his first assignment
    • Corporal Kathy Ecklund, transferring to Kelowna

    S/Sgt S. White presented to Council the RCMP Merritt Detachment 4th Quarter report highlighting areas of:
    • General Duty
    • General Investigation Section
    • Domestic Violence
    • Victim Services
    • Drug Trends
    • Human Resources
    • Crime Statistics

  • UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  • Council direct staff to prepare a report on the integrity of the City owned structure at 2544 Lauder Avenue with the report to include options for upgrades/repairs required to code or tear down

NEW BUSINESS

  • THAT the draft Ground Lease – Merritt Airport attached to this report be approved;

    AND THAT City Staff be directed to obtain an appraisal of the leasehold value of the City-owned lands at the Merritt Airport

  • THAT Council approves Sign Development Permit application DP2016-B; AND THAT Council approves Sign Development Permit DP2016-B (2052 Nicola Avenue) and authorizes issuance of the permit

  •  

    THAT Council accept the application from JAI Investment Inc.; AND THAT Council approve Development Permit application DP2014-K (3683 DeWolf Way) and authorizes issuance of the permit subject to the requisite security bond being received for landscaping in the amount of twenty-two thousand one hundred and ninety-one dollars and sixty ($22,191.60) cents 

    THAT Council endorse Anoop Sekhon and Danica Vere being  appointed to the Tourism and Economic Development Standing Committee

    REPORTS FROM COUNCIL

  • Councillor Norgaard reminded everyone to wear pink February 24th in support of anti-bullying
  • Councillor Goetz reported the latest gas buddy prices; attended the 40th anniversary of the museum on February 18th; the Nicola Valley Film Society presentation of “Phoenix” on February 22nd and congratulated the badminton team from Merritt participating in the BC Winter Games
  • Councillor Brown attended the Council budget meeting on February 13th; Economic Development seminar on February 15th; CPA accounting event on February 18th; Telus Grand Re-opening and a tour of the Airport on February 19th
    Councillor Brown commented on some upcoming events being the Age-Friendly open house and the Economic Development webinar on February 24th
    Councillor Brown asked if all statutory requirements for financial statements for the City had been met as well as the shortage on the Baillie House report of $7, 500
  • Councillor Christopherson attended the Nicola Valley Archives & Museum on February 11th; Council budget meeting on February 13th; Economic Development seminar on February 15th; Gillis House on February 16th; concert for the Cinema Society on February 17th; Business after Business on February 18th and the Telus Grand Opening on February 19th   
  • Councillor Prowal attended the Council budget meeting on February 13th; Committee of the Whole meeting February 16th; airport tour, Telus Optic open house and the Legion on February 19th;  the Nicola Valley Film Society presentation of “Phoenix” on February 22nd; visited the RCMP station to thank them for the speed control exercise on Voght Street on February 23rd and when visiting Claybanks noticed that a pine tree had come down into the river
  • Councillor Baker attended a number of the events already mentioned and thanked Councillor Goetz for the airport tour on February 19th
  • Mayor Menard thanked Councillor Goetz for the tour of the Merritt Airport; hosted Mayor drop-in sessions on February 10th and February 17th; toured the newly renovated Quilchena Hotel on invitation from Mr. Joe Gardiner from Douglas Lake Ranch on February 11th; had meetings with VSA; attended BC Hockey League meeting; Council budget meeting and Committee of the Whole meeting as well as the Telus Grand Opening and the Merritt Centennials wind up
