General Matters
  1. Mr. J. Morash, Publisher, Merritt News presented to Council that the Merritt News is seeking approval for Official status for the Official Visitor’s Guide.  The theme for the 2011 guide is Flourishing Under the Sun for 100 years.  Mr. Morash requested a sponsorship of the back page of the visitor’s guide from the City of Merritt at a cost of $2,575.00.
Unfinished Business
  1. Council resolved to write a letter to Thompson Rivers University Students' Union supporting in principle access to affordable, high-quality post-secondary education
  2. Council resolved that the request from the Walk of Stars requesting funding be referred to 2011 budget deliberations
Bylaws
  1. Council gave first, second and third readings to the City of Merritt Cemetery Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2112, 2011
  2. Council gave first, second and third readings to the City of Merritt Elections and Voting Procedure and Automated Voting Machines Authorization Bylaw No. 2113, 2011
New Business
  1. Council authorizes the application for exclusion from the Agricultural Land Reserve of Lot 1, DL 167, Plan KAP47485 to proceed to the Agricultural Land Commission
  2. Council resolved that Carole Fraser be appointed Chief Election Officer for conducting the 2011 Local Government Election with a stipend of two thousand ($2,000) dollars and the authority to appoint other election officials as required; AND THAT Shawn Boven be appointed Deputy Chief Election Officer for the 2011 Local Government Election with a stipend of one thousand ($1,000) dollars; AND FURTHER THAT election officers appointed by the Chief Election Officer be paid fifteen ($15.00) dollars per hour
  3. Council appointed the following persons to the Outdoor Recreational Facility Users Committee:
    • »Representing Merritt Mens Slo-pitch – Mark Colter with Cliff Colter as an alternate
    • »Representing Merritt Mixed Slo-pitch – Lisa DeWinter with Chris Hepner as an alternate
    • »Representing General Public – Kelly Donaldson
  4. The City of Merritt supported the Great Canadian Bike Rally at a major “Gold Level” sponsorship at a cost of ten thousand ($10,000) dollars
Notices of Motion
  1. Councillor Baker made a notice of motion that the twelve (12) registration packages that come with the Gold Sponsorship for the Great Canadian Bike Rally be drawn in a lottery on the City’s website
Reports from Council
  1. Councillor Goetz reported he attended Winter in the Nicola Valley – the 5th annual arts show hosted by the Arts Council at the Courthouse.  The show runs from February 18th – 26th
  2. Councillor Murdoch attended the LGLA conference along with Mayor Roline February 16th – 18 th.   Some highlights of the conference include using social media, leadership styles and team building exercises
  3. Mayor Roline advised that LGLA is hosting the 3rd Chief Elected Official Forum March 17th and 18th in Vancouver.  Expenses for Mayor Roline to attend the 3rd Chief Elected Official Forum March 17th and 18th in Vancouver were approved by Council
