General Matters:
  1. Mr. B. Gibney, Senior Manager, Corporate Services and Aboriginal Affairs, FortisBC provided a quick update of the expansion of the gas line from Oliver to Coquitlam.  Ms. J. Horvath, Community Investment, FortisBC presented a Community Investment cheque in the amount of $1500 for the "Cold Weather Shelter" through the Community Policing Office
  2. Ms. T. Hadwin, Marketing Manager, Gold Country Communities Society presented to Council the highlights of Gold Country initiatives including:
    -Mission statement
    -Historical achievements
    -Ongoing achievements
    -Utilization of Gold Country
    -Future Gold Country plans
    -Gold Country GeoToursim Program
  3. Ms. D. Norgaard, Program Coordinator, Conayt Friendship Society presented to COuncil an introduction to Conayt and what Conayt does - helping others including:
    -Agency profile
    -Objectives through Mission Statement
    -Friendship Society membership
    -Aboriginal family group conferencing services
    -Alcohol and drug program
    -Child and youth mental wellness
    -Cultural/community program
    -Elders group
    -Family preservation
    -Hearts and hands daycare
    -Housing program
    -Merritt moms and families program
    -Spirit of the Youth
    -Partnership with TRU nursing
  4. Future visions and projects including housing portfolio transfer, AHIP-1, rites of passage, Aboriginal Day celebration, greening of our space, annual Elders gathering, full circle, around the kitchen table, annual community Christmas party and Elder's Christmas hamper.
  5. Mr. G.Gerard spoke to Council of making all levels of government aware of Conayt's goals for Coquihalla Middle School with 1/2 being used for a Social Enterprise Environment and the balance being used as an Industry Trades School for Aboriginal people and the public
  6. Mr. A. Sekhon, President, Tourism Nicola Valley and Mr. R. Miller, Community Futures presented to Council clarification their position on the following:
    -Outstanding request for release of 2012 hotel tax funds
    -Intent of Toursim Nicola Valley to create a Best Practice Destination Marketing Organization
    -Tourism Nicola Valley's continued intent to solicit meaningful input and representation from the City of Merritt to the new organization and encourage transparent partnership
    -Request of monies owed from January 2012 to June 2012 be forwarded to the Tourism Nicola Valley allowing those that participated to either turn over funds to the new organization or deal with the funds in the same manner as the past
    -Council resolved that the balance of the funds collected by the Hotel Tax be paid to the Hotel Association
New Business:
  1. Council approved the schedule of Regular Council meetings and workshops for 2013
  2. Council renewed the lease for the golf course lands to the Merritt Golf and Country Club for a 20 year period, January 01, 2013 to December 31, 2033 at the rate of $1.00 per year with a 3 year year notice cancellation clause and authorized the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer to sign the lease agreement on behalf of the City
  3. Council accepted the Merritt Visitor Information at the Baillie Hiouse quarterly report
  4. Council appointed Angele Grenier to the Air Quality Committee
Notices of Motion:
  1. Councillor Murdoch's notice of motion for the January 08, 2013 Regular Council meeting that:
    That the City of Merritt acknowledge the importance of a cooperative, regional approach to tourism marketing and work with Tourism Nicola Valley to form a Best Practice DMO, supporting both Merritt tourism stakeholders and those within the Nicola Valley
  2. That Mayor and Council appoints a representative from Council to particiapte in the proposed Marketing Advisory Committee (MAC) of Tourism Nicola Valley and act as "Liaison" between the City and Tourism Nicola Valley
Reports from Council:
  1. Councillor Norgaard attended the MZ Judged fashion show at the Civic Centre produced by Nicola Family Therapy
  2. Mayor Roline attended the Country Christmas parade, the BC Transit 5th Anniversary, BC Healthy Communities webinar and the BC Country Music Awards
