PUBLIC INPUT

Ms. G. Prowal commented on the property located at 1590 Garcia Street and urged Council to proceed with the land use amendment for 3969 Crawford Avenue

GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

  • S/Sgt S. White provided the RCMP 2nd quarter report (April-June 2014) to Council and introduced 2 members of the detachment.  Sgt N. Fleming provided for Council a response to comments and rumors regarding the RCMP involvement in the Sturgis Canada Festival held August 21-24, 2014.
  • Mr. A. Lenard, Project Manager, BC Hydro provided Council with an update on the Merritt Area Transmission Project explain the year delay due to damaged transformers that need to be re-ordered and will take a year to arrive.  The new project in-service date shifts from November 2014 to October 2015.  
  • Mr. D. Brar and Mr. A. Sidhu provided Council details for the delay in the repairing of the property located at 1590 Garcia Street that was burnt in September 2010 requesting a two month extension for the remedial action.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

    THAT Council reaffirm Resolution No. 141/14 of the July 22, 2014 regular Council meeting

  • THAT Council address Councillor Kroeker`s August 12, 2014 Notice of Motion at this regular Council meeting
  • THAT Council direct staff to explore the legality of the blockade of the stub road off McGoran Avenue and removal of same and begin the expropriation process of the same stub road

BYLAWS

Land Use Amendment – 3969 Crawford Avenue

  • THAT the application for the rezoning at 3969 Crawford Avenue be accepted and processed
  • THAT the City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2179, 2014 be given first reading
  • THAT the City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2179, 2014 be given second reading
  • THAT the City of Merritt Zoning Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 2179, 2014 be submitted to Public Hearing

NEW BUSINESS

  • THAT Council support ASK Wellness with the annual Merritt homeless count in the amount of five hundred ($500) dollars funded through Grant-in-Aid  
  • THAT Council approves the extension of the agreement with the Sunshine Valley Good Earth Company Ltd. to May 31, 2015 under the same terms of the previous agreement

REPORTS FROM COUNCIL

  • Councillor Goetz attended the July 01st Airport Fly-In breakfast with another breakfast being hosted on August 20th; congratulated Roger Sloan on achieving his PGA ticket and reminded everyone of the rodeo this weekend
  • Councillor Menard also reminded everyone of the rodeo this weekend, advised of the Merritt Centennials hockey camp and toured the Sturgis Canada event
  • Mayor Roline attend the August 15th Music in the City and welcomed the BC Ambassador delegates to Merritt.  Mayor Roline attended the Merritt Centennials golf fundraiser at Sagebrush and the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Eastern Star on August 16th and the Sturgis Canada Festival opening ceremonies and welcomed attendees on August 21st
