GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

THAT Council authorizes the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer to execute the proposed Fire Services Agreement between the City of Merritt and the Cook’s Ferry Indian Band for IR#21 (Antko)

THAT Council approves application DVP 2017-02 for 2202 Charters Street and directs staff to issue the development variance permit

NEW BUSINESS

THAT Council authorizes staff to purchase a thousand ($1,000) dollar sponsorship in support of the Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo to be funded through the Economic Development advertising budget

THAT the City of Merritt has no objections to the application from the Nicolanes Bowling Alley located at 2076 Coutlee Avenue to the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch for a permanent change in their licensed area to include the entire second floor of the facility;
AND THAT the City considers that noise from this venue would be of minimal impact and in compliance with City bylaws and would not result in the establishment being operated in a manner that is contrary to its primary purpose

THAT Council directs staff to apply to join the Visitor Services Network Program offered through Destination BC

  • Councillor Goetz provided the latest gas buddy prices 
  • Councillor Christopherson thanked staff for arranging for more tables at the concession stand in Central Park 
  • Councillor Baker welcomed new employees Lee Nelles, Director of Recreation & Facilities and Jim Johnston, IT Coordinator and met with Ken Tourand of NVIT
  • Councillor Norgaard met with the Unit Chief at BC Health Services, met with the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer regarding issues at Claybanks RV Park and met with Councillors Brown and Christopherson regarding topics to discuss with the Health Minister at UBCM 
  • Councillor Brown attended a meeting to set the Council agenda
  • Councillor Prowal attended a Gold Country meeting, Logger Sports Show meeting and has been preparing information for Minister meetings at UBCM 
  • Mayor Menard welcomed new employees Lee Nelles, Director of Recreation & Facilities and Jim Johnston, IT Coordinator, attended a Merritt Centennials Board meeting and toured the RCMP training centre (Depot) in Regina
