PUBLIC INPUT

Ms. G. Prowal commented on the proposed rezoning application for the recycling bottle depot at the Rail Yard mall expressing concerns of customer convenience and parking.  Ms. Prowal suggested Council and staff find a more appropriate location for the bottle recycling depot.

GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  • THAT the City issue a Request For Proposals for the provision of free publically accessible Wi-Fi services within the City’s public facilities and downtown core
  • THAT Council support the D.A.R.E. Program and approves a Grant-in-Aid in the amount of one thousand four hundred and fifty-five ($1455) dollars

BYLAWS

Land Use Amendment 1700 Garcia Street (Railyard Mall)

  • THAT the application be accepted and processed
  • THAT the City of Merritt Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2178, 2014 be read a first time
  • THAT the City of Merritt Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2178, 2014 be read a second time
  • THAT the City of Merritt Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2178, 2014 be submitted to Public Hearing

 

NEW BUSINESS

THAT Council direct staff to renew the tourism marketing and development membership agreement on a year to year basis based on priorities for the year at a rate of eight thousand dollars ($8,000) per year and notify Gold Country Community Society that the City of Merritt will not be entering into a multi-year commitment in the future

Councillor Kroeker made the following Notice of Motion:

THAT Council direct staff to explore the legality of the blockade of the stub road off McGoran Avenue and removal of same and begin the expropriation process of the same stub road
 

REPORTS FROM COUNCIL

  • Councillor Baker congratulated the Chamber of Commerce on the successful Art Walk; attended the Lower Nicola Indian Band the open house July 24, 2014 and the VIP luncheon on July 30, 2014 
  • Councillor Menard attend the Bass Coast Festival
  • Councillor Kroeker attend the “Music in the Square” event
  • Mayor Roline attended the Lower Nicola Indian Band open house on July 24, 2014; the Nicola Lake Steering Project committee meeting on July 30, 2014 as well as the VIP entrepreneur program luncheon and the Chamber of Commerce Art Walk wrap up.  Mayor Roline also attended Bass Coast Festival on July 31, 2014; the Merritt Flying Club pancake breakfast on August 03, 2014; the August 09, 2014 Music in the Park fundraiser for the burnt out buildings downtown and judged the Merritt Herald’s “win a bike contest”
