PUBLIC INPUT

  • Nil

GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

  • Mr. N. McLeod presented to the City a cheque in the amount od $3,832.09 being the balance of the bank account for the City of Merritt 100th Anniversary celebration.

    The committee had suggestions for the use of the funds being:
    • A donation of $2,000 to the Nicola Valley Fall Fair Association towards the facility washrooms
    • Signage in the parking lot next to the Baillie House

  • Mr. C. van Hemmen presented to Council the timber supply review for the Merritt timber supply area and invited Council to participate in the open house August 19, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 pm
     

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  •  WHEREAS there has been some Council concern over lack of reporting of major projects;

    AND WHEREAS it is the responsibility of Council to direct the process;AND WHEREAS on behalf of the community of Merritt, Council needs to be able to have prompt input from staff regarding developing and improving conditions for its citizenry;THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT an organic process in reporting concerning operations be begun

    BYLAWS

  • City of Merritt Sale of Owned Land Reserve Fund Expenditure Bylaw No. 2196, 2015 was read a first, second and third time

NEW BUSINESS

  • THAT the City of Merritt support the proposed partnership to deliver the Merritt/Nicola Valley Experience at the Thompson Okanagan Association’s Caravan event in Vancouver by providing funding support in the amount of six thousand ($6,000) dollars and other in-kind support such as use of the City’s consumer tradeshow display and staff resources, as applicable, to develop collateral materials for distribution at the event or event representation 
  • THAT Council authorizes staff to purchase a two thousand five hundred ($2,500) sponsorship in support of the Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo’s Kid Zone funded by the City Initiative budget

    REPORTS FROM COUNCIL

  • Councillor Christopherson requested the status of the independent audit regarding the cost overruns on the lacrosse box project
  • Councillor Goetz provided the latest gas buddy prices and reminded everyone of the BC Ambassador coronation this weekend
  • Councillor Baker thanked Mr. Chabot for his past services and congratulated Mr. Boven for accepting the challenge; thanked the Smart Step for the graffiti clean-up and enjoyed the Music in the Park
  • Councillor Norgaard attended the 2nd annual RCMP Nicola Lake canoe pull reported she had the opportunity to correct some misunderstandings regarding the importing of bio solids to our community and reminded Council the Cultural Orientation workshop is scheduled for August 19th  
  • Councillor Prowal withdrew her request to develop a policy/procedure for project and construction oversight, requested a bylaw be considered to develop an enforceable bylaw for dog tethering; requested if Midday Valley Road could be graded and expressed her concerns over the negative perception in the media concerning bio solids
