GENERAL MATTERS - Delegations and Recognitions

  • Bryce Garcia, representing Merritt & District Minor Hockey Association thanked City Council for the generous donation to help offset expenses for the team to travel to the Provincials in the Lower Mainland.  The Merritt PeeWee team brought home the banner – an accomplishment that hadn’t been done in 31 years.  Council expressed their appreciation for the team being great ambassadors for the City and how proud the City is of this achievement
  • Auditors from KPMG presented Draft 2015 Audited Financial Statements for the City of Merritt consisting of:
    • Auditor’s report
    • Statement of financial position
    • Statement of operations
    • Statement of change in net financial assets
    • Statement of cash flows
    • Notes of financial statement

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  • THAT the report for the Nicola Valley Community Theatre Society request for waiving fees be accepted for information
  • THAT Council consider the recommendations submitted in Councillor Brown’s report and as resolved deal with each proposed Committee separately
  • THAT Council defer the decision regarding the Lawn Bowling Facility until the new Director of Recreation & Facilities has had the opportunity to review

NEW BUSINESS

  • THAT the Draft 2015 Audited Financial Statements for the City of Merritt be received for information
  • THAT the City renew the lease for the BC Hydro Building/Courthouse for the period of January 14, 2016 to January 13, 2019 at an annual rate of thirty six thousand six hundred and eighty ($36,680) dollars Voting Opposed:  Councillor Baker
  • THAT Council approve the Memorandum of Understanding for Service Plan Review from BC Transit dated April 01, 2016 and authorize staff to sign on behalf of the City
  • THAT Council accept the draft City of Merritt audited financial statements; AND THAT the Mayor and Director of Financial Services & IT be authorized to sign on behalf of the City

     

BYLAWS

  • THAT City of Merritt Council Remuneration Bylaw No. 2206, 2016 be adopted
  • That City of Merritt Fees and Charges Bylaw Amending Bylaw No. 2208, 2016 be read a first time
  • That City of Merritt Fees and Charges Bylaw Amending Bylaw No. 2208, 2016 be amended by adding a fifteen ($15.00) dollar fee for Overflow Parking on Schedule “G”
  • That City of Merritt Fees and Charges Bylaw Amending Bylaw No. 2208, 2016 be read a second time as amended
  • That City of Merritt Fees and Charges Bylaw Amending Bylaw No. 2208, 2016 be read a third time  Voting Opposed:  Councillor Goetz

REPORTS FROM COUNCIL

  • Councillor Brown viewed the Telus Future Home; attended a meeting with Dave Thompson, Ministry of Forests, blessing of the new fire truck, hospital meeting, budget meeting, talk regarding Syrian refugees and participated in the Adopt-a-Road  clean-up   
  • Councillor Goetz provided the latest Gas Buddy prices; attended the hospital visit, budget meeting and expressed condolences on the passing of Constable Sarah Beckett in the line of duty 
  • Councillor Norgaard attended the Police Committee meeting, hospital meeting, blessing of the new fire truck and expressed condolences on the passing of past Lower Nicola Indian Band Chief Don Moses
  • Councillor Baker attended the blessing of the new fire truck and the Merritt & District Chamber of Commerce AGM
  • Councillor Prowal attended the Tourism & Economic Development Committee meeting, Telus Fibre Optic, talk on “Inconvenient Reality”, Merritt & District Chamber of Commerce AGM, blessing of the new fire truck, budget meeting and participated in the Adopt-A-Road clean-up
  • Councillor Christopherson volunteered at Gillis House; attended the hospital meeting and will attend the Merritt Business Walk  
  • Mayor Menard reflected on the passing of past Lower Nicola Indian Band Chief Don Moses and Constable Sarah Beckett; met with Diacarbon, attended Telus Fibre Optic, Thompson Nicola Regional District meetings, hospital meeting, Committee of the Whole meeting, Merritt & District Chamber of Commerce AGM, new fire truck blessing, Centennials spring camp and participated in the Adopt-a-Road clean-up
