Dan Albas, MP, Okanagan-Coquihalla presented Mayor Roline with her Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal
General Matters:
Ms. L. Fletcher presented to Council the changes to the structure for the use of the Merritt Youth & Family Resources contract including:
  • Autism services
  • Teen services
  • Day cares services (not for profit)

Request to Council:  to recognize that Merritt Youth & Family Resources Society will utilize the 1721 Coldwater Avenue facility to address the current community demand for family and youth support services.  The Society wishes to renew the lease agreement to include family and youth support services

Unfinished Business:

1. THAT Council affirm the resolution of January 08, 2013 which states:  THAT the City of Merritt acknowledge the importance of a cooperative, regional approach to tourism marketing and work with Tourism Nicola Valley to Form a Best Practices DMO, supporting both Merritt tourism stakeholders and those within the Nicola Valley; AND THAT Council appoint a representative from Council to participate in the proposed Marketing Advisory Committee (MAC) of Tourism Nicola Valley, and act as “liaison” between the City and Tourism Nicola Valley
 

New Business:
  1. Council awards the City of Merritt Fuel Supply contract to Prairie Fuel Advisors (2008); managers of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Fuel Supply Program for three (3) years with a two (2) year renewal
  2. Council review the request for an In-Kind Grant-in-Aid from the Merritt Country Christmas Committee in the amount of two thousand six hundred and seventy-seven ($2,677) dollars and award the grant as requested
  3. Council accept the proposal from Interior Savings Insurance Services Inc., Merritt for general insurance coverage for 2013 – 2016 in the amount of fifty six thousand five hundred and sixty four ($56,564) dollars per annum, a reduction in cost of two thousand seven hundred and sixty-five ($2,765) dollars from prior years, due to a loyalty credit
  4. Council review the request for Sponsorship Grant-in-Aid request from the Merritt & District Chamber of Commerce in the amount of three thousand ($3,000) dollars and award the grant as requested 
  5. Council authorizes staff to proceed with an auction to dispose of obsolete/excess equipment; AND THAT the Zamboni be donated to the Tulameen Community Association as is

Notices of Motion:

  1. Councillor Murdoch brought forth the following Notice of Motion: THAT Council invite Community Futures Nicola Valley to make a presentation to Council at one of its regular meetings in June;AND THAT the Deputy Clerk contact Community Futures Nicola Valley to determine which of the two Tuesdays would work better for Community Futures Nicola Valley
  2. Councillor Murdoch brought forth the following Notice of Motion: THAT Council appoint a Select Committee to consist of the six (6) Councillors for the purpose of advising Council on appointments to Select Committees and other bodies requesting a Council representative; AND THAT until the committee appoints a chair, Councillor Murdoch will be chair
  3. Councillor Christopherson brought forth the following Notice of Motion: THAT Council invite Nicola Valley Community Arts Council to make a presentation to Council at one of its regular meetings before the end June; AND THAT the Deputy Clerk contact Nicola Valley Community Arts Council to determine which Tuesday would work better for Nicola Valley Community Arts Council

Reports:

  1. Councillor Christopherson attended the “8 hands 2 pianos” concert hosted by the Arts Council Concert Committee and advised that the Arts Council is hosting a “Night of the Arts” celebrating 30 years on Friday, April 26, 2013  
  2. Councillor Baker attended the Community Gardens meeting and advised Community Gardens is having a work bee on Saturday, April 27, 2013
  3. Councillor Kroeker attended the COFI conference in Prince George and is attending the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association AGM in Russell, Manitoba next week award
  4. Mayor Roline apologized if her comments regarding her non-confidence in Council with regards to conflict of interest was taken out of context
