Community Conversation:
Understanding Poverty and Housing Insecurity

The City of Merritt with the Conayt Friendship Society has retained A Way Home Canada to facilitate a Community Organization Training and Engagement Session.

This session aims to help community organizations and service providers deepen their understanding of homelessness prevention, its root causes, and the critical role of Family and Natural Supports. Participants will gain practical tools to enhance their impact and foster allyship in preventing homelessness.

The event will explore factors contributing to housing instability, barriers individuals face, and how organizations can actively provide meaningful support.

The organizers will lead a one-day training and consultation session with community organizations to share best practices in homelessness prevention. This session will include:

  • An overview of proven prevention models
  • Hands-on guidance for organizations to integrate these models locally
  • Practical tools, strategies, and real-world case studies
  • Collaborative discussions to identify and remove barriers to housing stability

This consultation is open to community organizations and interested members of the public.
