The City of Merritt has just received a $304,100 grant as part of the 2023/24 B.C. Air Access Program (BCAAP) This 75% funded cost-shared grant will go towards installing security fencing around the Merritt Regional Airport at a total project cost of $405,427.61
“The City of Merritt thanks the Province of BC for their continued support in developing our community,” says Mayor Michael Goetz. “This project is demonstration of a commitment to improve the investment readiness of our community and turn the Merritt Regional Airport into an economic driver for our community.”
BCAAP is a cost-sharing program that provides funding to help communities, especially smaller ones, with important improvements to their aviation facilities. B.C. has more than 300 public airports, heliports and water aerodromes, which play a significant role in connecting communities, supporting the economy and keeping people safe. B.C.’s airports handle 20% of Canada’s airport traffic and nearly 25% of all takeoffs and landings.
