The proposed Zoning Bylaw No. 2284, 2020 is intended to aid in the creation of additional housing options for current and future residents, provide more flexibility for business owners, and help attract development and investment to the community.
Project Background Information
The current Zoning Bylaw was adopted in 2015. Many of the regulations are no longer conducive to creating the vibrant, growing community that Merritonians would like the community to become. Many residents and developers have indicated that the bylaw could use a refresh. Hearing those requests, City of Merritt staff were tasked with reviewing the existing bylaw for potential revisions.
On March 4, 2020, staff appeared before Council to provide an initial report. To be financially prudent, City staff agreed to draft a new bylaw in-house, rather than seeking a consultant to assist with the project. Workshops were then held in March to seek input into the development of a new bylaw.
The proposed bylaw was presented to Council on June 30, 2020. Following tonight’s webinar, a Public Hearing will be held in August.
